Viji Shanthikumar, BScN, MN, NP-PHC

Viji Shanthikumar is a Family Nurse Practitioner with a strong background in emergency medicine and a deep commitment to thoughtful, patient-centred primary care. She completed her Nurse Practitioner education in Primary Health Care at the University of Toronto and previously spent several years working in the emergency department, caring for diverse and complex patient populations at Mackenzie Health Hospital in Richmond Hill.

While emergency medicine shaped her clinical confidence and decision-making, it was the lack of continuity that ultimately drew Viji toward primary care. She values the opportunity to build long-term relationships with patients, follow their journeys over time, and work together to support both immediate concerns and long-term health goals. Her approach to care is collaborative, grounded in trust, and focused on meeting patients where they are.

Viji is also passionate about teaching and mentorship, having supported nursing learners in both clinical and classroom settings. Education is central to her practice, not only for students, but for patients as well. She strongly believes that informed, shared decision-making leads to better outcomes and more meaningful care experiences.

Committed to lifelong learning, Viji strives to provide evidence-based care rooted in current best practice while maintaining a warm, approachable presence. Outside of work, she enjoys staying active through soccer and volleyball, traveling, and exploring Canada through road trips and local adventures. Curious by nature, she values balance, connection, and growth, both in and beyond healthcare.
