What is an Endometrial Biopsy?

A quick, minimally invasive diagnostic procedure

An endometrial biopsy collects a small tissue sample from the lining of your uterus (the endometrium) and sends it to a lab for analysis. It helps your provider diagnose conditions affecting the uterus.

Common Reasons for Endometrial Biopsy

  • Abnormal uterine bleeding (heavy periods, bleeding between periods, postmenopausal bleeding)
  • Thickened endometrial lining found on ultrasound
  • Endometrial cancer screening in high-risk patients
  • Investigation of infertility causes
