Care& Functional Medicine

Personalized, evidence-based care that looks beyond your symptoms to find and address the root causes of chronic and complex health concerns.

What Is Functional Medicine?

Functional medicine looks for the root cause of your symptoms rather than only managing them. Instead of treating one concern in isolation, your practitioner takes the time to understand your whole story, your history, lifestyle, and health goals, before building a care plan tailored to you.

Visits are designed to be thorough, giving room to fully explore what is driving how you feel. This care complements your regular medical care, it does not replace it.

The GOTOIT Method

A clear, structured approach we use to understand your health and build your plan

G

Gather

We start by listening. You walk us through your full health story, from your timeline to your symptoms to your day-to-day life. Your practitioner arrives already having reviewed everything you sent ahead.

O

Organize

We sort your story using established functional medicine frameworks, looking for patterns and connections across your whole system rather than one symptom at a time.

T

Tell

We reflect back what we see in plain language, drawing the through-line between your symptoms and their likely root causes, so the picture finally makes sense to you.

O

Order

We decide together what testing, if any, will sharpen the picture. We always explain the purpose and cost of a test before ordering it, and nothing is mandatory.

I

Initiate

Together we build your first plan, starting with food and lifestyle. Where appropriate, we add targeted supplements and prescription support, matched to changes you can realistically start.

T

Track

We name exactly what we will measure, from symptoms to labs, and set your follow-up so we can see what is working and fine-tune from there.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about functional medicine at Care&

Functional medicine looks for the root cause of your symptoms rather than only managing them. That is why the first visit is longer than a standard appointment, so we have time to understand your whole story. This complements, and does not replace, your regular medical care.
The initial visit is $500 and follow-ups are $250. Lab fees and supplements are billed separately, since costs vary depending on what is right for you. Your practitioner will always explain the purpose and cost of any test before ordering it.
Functional lab testing and supplements are generally not covered by OHIP. Some private insurance plans reimburse a portion, so it is worth checking with your provider. You will be given what you need for any claims.
Not at all. Functional medicine works alongside your existing care, and your practitioner will coordinate with your primary NP or other providers whenever it matters for your health.
Possibly both. We always start with food and lifestyle as the foundation, then add targeted supplements ordered through a secure online dispensary and, where appropriate, prescription medication.
It depends on what we are working on. Functional medicine addresses underlying causes, which takes time, but many people notice meaningful changes within the first few weeks to months as the plan is adjusted.
That is completely normal and it is okay. We start with a few realistic changes that fit your life and build from there. You set the pace.
Functional medicine is not for emergencies. If you have urgent or severe symptoms, please contact your primary care provider, call your local urgent care line, or go to the nearest emergency department.
