I had the amazing opportunity of completing 250 hours of my Nurse Practitioner placement alongside this stellar group of practitioners. I encountered many different conditions found in all ages which improved my differential diagnosis ability. This placement heightened my critical thinking, challenged my diagnostic reasoning, and truly pushed me to grow into the NP role. The best part was the encouragement and support I received from everyone on the team - from the NPs to the administrative staff alike. Overall, I highly encourage all students who want to experience the full-scope of NP practice to apply!
University of Toronto NP Student
My clinical placement at the Care& Family Practice clinic, led by four experienced NPs, was an incredibly valuable and enriching experience in my journey as an NP student. From day one, I was welcomed into a supportive and collaborative environment where learning was prioritized. The NP team created an environment that balanced autonomy and mentorship. Each NP was approachable, knowledgeable, and generous with their time and feedback. My preceptor Cody was especially encouraging and enthusiastic and always found new and engaging ways to promote critical thinking and clinical decision-making. He truly helped foster both my confidence and competence as a future provider. One of the most rewarding aspects of this placement was the opportunity to work with a highly diverse patient population. The clinic serves individuals across the lifespan, from pediatrics to geriatrics, and allows for the building of long-term patient centered relationships. The clinic itself was well-organized, which created a smooth and efficient workflow that maximized time with patients and minimized unnecessary stress. Additionally, their electronic health record system was advanced and user-friendly, enabling real-time charting, streamlined communication, and easy access to up-to-date patient information. This technology was not only a practical tool but also an educational one, enhancing my ability to track patient progress and apply evidence-based practices. Overall, this placement provided a comprehensive and empowering experience that helped me advance my clinical skills, professional identity and interesting in pursuing primary care as my field of practice. I am deeply grateful for having had the opportunity to learn in such a forward-thinking, inclusive, and supportive environment and would recommend this placement to future students.
