Each child, including newborns and infants, requires their own individual patient account in our system. As a parent, you can easily create linked accounts for your children through our secure app or web portal. First, log in to your own account, then select “Switch Profiles” and “Add Linked Account” to create your child’s profile with their name, date of birth, and health information. Once their account is created, you’ll be able to book appointments specifically for your child, view their records, and manage their care all through your parental access. This system ensures each child has their own complete medical record while giving parents convenient control over their healthcare. If you need assistance setting up your child’s account, our helpdesk team is available at 647-951-4770 to guide you through the process.

Care& Family Health operates as a private healthcare provider outside the OHIP system. Pediatric care is available through either our Family Practice membership ($450/year per child for unlimited access to all services) or as part of our Episodic Healthcare appointments ($100/visit). While this means pediatric visits aren’t directly covered by OHIP, many families receive partial or full reimbursement through private health insurance plans via healthcare spending accounts or paramedical benefits. We provide detailed receipts with all information typically required for insurance claims. This private model allows us to offer significant advantages over OHIP-covered pediatric care, including same/next-day appointments rather than long waits, unhurried 30-minute consultations rather than rushed visits, and continuity with the same Nurse Practitioner who gets to know your child over time.

While we don’t offer walk-in appointments, we’ve designed our booking system to accommodate sick children promptly, typically offering same-day or next-day appointments. This approach combines the convenience of quick access with the benefits of scheduled appointments: minimal waiting, preparation for your child’s specific needs, and efficient, focused care. When your child is ill, simply book through our app or website, indicating the urgent nature of your request, or call our clinic directly. For concerns that don’t require physical examination, we also offer virtual appointments that can be arranged even more quickly, allowing your child to be assessed from the comfort of home without exposure to other illnesses in a waiting room.

Yes, the Nurse Practitioners at Care& Family Health are fully qualified to provide comprehensive pediatric primary care. They can perform well-child check-ups, administer vaccinations, diagnose and treat common childhood illnesses, assess developmental milestones, manage chronic conditions, and provide guidance on nutrition, behavior, sleep, and other childhood concerns. Our NPs have extensive training in pediatric assessment and care, with the ability to prescribe medications, order diagnostic tests, and refer to specialists when needed. For children with complex medical conditions requiring specialist intervention, our Nurse Practitioners work collaboratively with pediatric specialists while continuing to coordinate overall care. Many families appreciate our NPs’ thorough, holistic approach that typically allows more time for parental questions and education than traditional pediatric visits.
