Based on this assessment, we develop a personalized prevention and screening plan following evidence-based Canadian guidelines. This plan typically includes recommendations for appropriate cancer screenings based on your age, gender, and risk factors; practical lifestyle modification strategies focusing on nutrition, physical activity, and other modifiable risk factors; and a schedule for ongoing monitoring. For Family Practice members, implementation of this plan is included in your annual membership with unlimited follow-up appointments. The program is fully integrated with your overall primary care to ensure comprehensive health management rather than treating cancer prevention as a separate concern.

Additionally, we provide continuous relationship-based care with the same provider who knows your history, rather than seeing different clinicians at each visit. This integrated approach ensures that cancer prevention becomes a seamless part of your overall health management rather than an isolated service.

Absolutely. The Nurse Practitioners at Care& Family Health are fully qualified to provide comprehensive cancer screening and prevention services. They can perform clinical breast examinations, Pap tests for cervical cancer screening, skin examinations, testicular exams, and digital rectal exams; order appropriate screening tests including mammograms, colonoscopies, PSA testing, and lung cancer screening; interpret screening results and explain their significance; develop personalized cancer prevention plans; and make specialist referrals when necessary. Our NPs stay current with the latest evidence-based screening guidelines and prevention strategies. For specific concerns requiring specialist intervention (such as abnormal screening results or high genetic risk), our Nurse Practitioners work collaboratively with oncologists and other specialists while continuing to coordinate your overall preventive care. Many patients appreciate our NPs’ thorough, holistic approach that addresses not only the technical aspects of cancer screening but also the emotional and educational components of cancer prevention.

Care& Family Health facilitates all standard cancer screenings recommended by Canadian guidelines, tailored to your age, gender, and risk factors. These include:

This membership covers your initial cancer risk assessment, development of a personalized prevention plan, all primary screening procedures performed in our clinic (including Pap tests, skin examinations, clinical breast examinations, etc.), and unlimited follow-up visits to discuss results and adjust your prevention strategy. For non-members, these services are available through our Episodic Healthcare option at $100 per visit, though multiple visits may be required for comprehensive prevention planning and follow-up. While lab fees for blood work and costs for external imaging services (mammograms, colonoscopies, etc.) are typically covered by OHIP for eligible patients, we can provide guidance on options for those without OHIP coverage. Many patients receive partial reimbursement for Care& services through private insurance plans via healthcare spending accounts or preventive care benefits.
